Arranging the tree

The Tree view positions your directory automatically, but you can also place the boxes by hand — drag them to where they make sense to you and save that arrangement so it sticks.

Arrange mode

Rearranging happens in a dedicated arrange mode on the Tree view. It is available if you have permission to edit the directory's structure; if you don't, the tree stays read-only and lays itself out for you.

Open arrange mode from the toolbar above the tree. Entering it expands every branch and clears any focused branch, so the whole tree sits on screen at once. This is deliberate: the layout you save covers the entire tree, so you work with all of it in view rather than a filtered slice.

Once you are in arrange mode:

1. Drag any box to a new position. The boxes move as you drag them.
2. Use auto-arrange to re-lay the whole tree into a tidy layout in a single step, then nudge individual boxes from that clean starting point.
3. Repeat until the arrangement reads the way you want.

While you are arranging, ordinary browsing actions — expanding, collapsing and focusing a branch — are paused, and dragging only moves boxes on screen. Nothing is stored until you save.

Saving a layout

When the tree looks right, save your changes. Saving records the on-screen position of every box, so the arrangement is waiting the next time the Tree view opens — for you and for anyone else who views it. Because the saved layout covers the whole tree, arrange mode keeps everything visible while you work, so every box has a position to store.

If you would rather not keep your edits, discard them instead. Discarding drops every move you made in this session and returns the boxes to the last saved layout. Whether you save or discard, the tree then returns to however you were browsing it before you started — the same branches expanded and the same branch focused.
