A KPI widget shows one figure at a glance, so a dashboard answers a question the moment you open it. KPI widgets live on dashboard pages, sitting alongside charts and tables, and each one draws its number from the entries in the dashboard's scope.
Metrics and gauges
A metric widget shows a single number with a short caption beneath it. A gauge shows the same kind of number as a filled ring, so you read both the value and how far it sits along its range.
The Fairview Operations dashboard pairs both styles across its top row. The Procedure compliance gauge fills its ring to 52%, an average response time gauge reads its value in the centre of the dial, and the Median response time metric shows its figure without a ring, sized to be read at a glance.
Use a plain metric when the number stands on its own, and a gauge when it means more against a target — compliance against 100%, or a response time against a service goal.
Each widget refreshes as new entries are logged. To add a KPI widget or rearrange the row, open the dashboard for editing with Edit Dashboard, then publish when you are done.
KPI cards
A card groups a heading with several related figures, so one tile carries a set of numbers that belong together. The Issues card on the Fairview Operations dashboard pairs its title with a column of labelled counts — Total, Task, Shift End, Inspection and more — each figure sitting beside its label.
Reach for a card when several figures read best as a set, and a single metric or gauge when one number tells the whole story. For distributions and trends over time, use a chart instead — see chart widgets. For row-level detail, use table widgets.
